Airport Buses
Buses provide a slower but cheaper alternative to the Airport Express. Some useful routes: A11: Airport-North Point (stops include- Causeway Bay, Wan Chai and Central) A21: Airport-Hung Hom Station (stops include- Tsim Sha Tsui, Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok)
Airport Express
Airport Express is an MTR service that connects Hong Kong (Central) to the Airport via Kowloon and Tsing Yi stations. The trip takes around 25 minutes (or slightly longer). Fares are by Single Journey Ticket, Octopus card and Airport Travel Pass. A single journey fare between the airport and Hong Kong (central) is around HK$100. City check-in is possible for selected airlines.
Buses
Buses provide excellent cross town services, as well as servicing MTR stations around the city. There are 2 operators. Fares are paid bys Octopus Card or by cash (with no change given). Hong Kong Double Decker Trams
Jump on a tram from Central to Wan Chai. Or choose from 6 other main routes. Trams run along the north side of Hong Kong Island, including Central, Wanchai, Happy Valley and North Point. A cheap flat fare (adults $2) is charged regardless of distance (payable by coin or Octopus card).
Mid-Levels Escalator
The longest link of outdoor escalators in the world take you from Central to affluent highrise area of the Mid-Levels. On the way the escalators pass SoHo and Hollywood Road.
Minibuses
Minibuses run on routes that cross-town. Red roof minibuses operate on flexible routes, take cash payment only and can offer some change. Green roof minibuses operate on fixed routes and payment is by exact fare or Octopus card.
MTR
MTR is Hong Kong's metro or subway system. The MTR connects most of northern Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and north to the border, Kowloon Bay and eastward, HK Airport and Disneyland. Fares are paid by Octopus card or Single Journey Ticket. LINK: MTR route map LINK: MTR fare calculator
Octopus card
Octopus card is a smart card that can be used for travel on Hong Kong's MTR, buses and trams, as well as for payments at some retail outlets (such as McDonalds). Cards cannot be used to pay for taxis or some minibuses. Octopus cards can be bought at MTR stations and at the Airport, and value can be added at stations and 7-Eleven outlets. Star Ferry
Get close to Hong Kong's harbour. The ferry trip from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central is the most popular route and offers fantastic views. Other routes include Tsim Sha Tsui to Wan Chai and Wan Chai to Hung Hom. Fares can be paid by cash or Octopus card. LINK: Star Ferry website
Taxis
Taxis in Hong Kong are safe, metered, are quite easy to find and can be hailed in most places (except where there are double yellow lines). Taxis are red in most of HK, with the exception of New Territories (green) and Lantau Island (blue).
Walking
Walking - despite often congested and polluted roads, walking is often the easiest and best way to explore HK. In the evening and on weekends pedestrians dominate areas such as Causeway Bay, while much of Central is joined by pedestrian bridges linking office buildings and shopping complexes allowing you to stay out of the heat, cold or rain.
